An unexpected party of 30 postponed our weekly GF Dining Spree interview. So we’re taking a quick break. But keep your eye out for next week’s post with Chris of Christopher’s Old World Deli in Grass Valley, California.
In the meantime, we’ve noticed a plethora of wonderful recipes are flooding the gluten-free part of the blogosphere now that Fall has arrived. We’ve gathered up seven of our favorites to share with our readers.
1. Applesauce Crumb Cake with Cinnamon
Originally created by Karina Allrich A.K.A. The Gluten Free Goddess back in 2012, this breakfast-perfect cake teases of apple pie and cinnamon rolls with no guilt-strings attached. Its crumbly texture demands a fork and pairs well with hot drinks. A great alternative may be to switch up the applesauce for some milk and pumpkin puree for a delightful twist.
2. Roasted Carrot and Ginger Soup
All the sweet and earthy playoffs in this simple soup will have you running to your local farmers’ market for ingredients. Plus, both the main ingredients have tons of vitamins and antioxidants to shoo away those pesky colds that seem to show up this time of year. Find other great soup recipes at Adam Gratton’s blog.
3. GF Turkey Pot Pie
Over at Four Spoons Blog, they’re rolling out rice flour based pastry dough and stewing up turkeys with the best autumn vegetables. This hearty dish reminds me of the reasons people love to eat stews and casseroles in cold weather, mostly to get warm right down to their toes and stay that way.
4. Pistachio Chewy Bite Popcorn Balls
This treat is all the things a popcorn ball should be, only matured a bit with pistachios. Big bonus: they are easier to make than rice crispy treats, and the chunks of green might just keep the kiddos away. Navigate over to celiac-disease.com for a recipe to make eight!
5. Blackberries and Hazelnut Crumble Dessert
Gluten-Free-blog.blogspot.com is making mouths water with their local-ingredient recipes resisting the use of gluten. This one uses her own home grown nuts and berries gathered nearby. If the sugar on top gets caramelized just right, you’ll have a crispy crusted, bubbling taste of fall right there on your spoon. Add a little whipped cream of ice cream for a special treat.
6. GF Bierocks: German Meat Turnovers
There’s a special kind of joy when you bite into a turnover and the filling oozes over your taste buds. This savory version from Gluten Free on a Shoestring sounds like a wonderful ode to fall with onion, garlic, cabbage and beef. I’d imagine you could combine your own favorite flavors and fill the dough with them as well.
7. GF Sausage and Kale Pasta
The combination of Fall’s super green and sausage make a belly full and warm. This recipe from simplygluten-free.com uses quinoa pasta. It’s grounded with a couple tablespoons of balsamic vinegar and gets some heat from crushed pepper flakes and garlic. It’s sure to chase the cold weather and accompanying blues away. Doubling or tripling the recipe could require inviting friends over to share.
