Protein is one of those nutrients that’s usually associated with muscles, working out and weight loss. But for anyone who’s living gluten free, protein can also mean a filling, healthy snack. Typically protein is associated with meat and eggs. While those foods do have a huge boost of protein, there are other ways of getting your required protein. Plus, a protein rich meal will reduce cravings for sweets and will keep away hunger for a longer period of time.
Protein bars are a great way to supply your body with the mentioned vital macronutrient: they can be carried inside the pocket, and most of them are simply delicious. That said, every brand is different, and some protein bars are healthier than others. Also, some bars contain fewer calories and carbs, which make them perfect for weight loss, while others are specially aimed to be consumed after exercising. And then there’s some that are just good snacks 🙂
Here’s the list of some of the top gluten free protein bars
1. Quest Bars
These protein bars are the perfect choice for anyone who’s looking for taste as well as wanting to lose weight. They’re composed mainly of proteins and fibers, which makes them the kind of bar you can eat guilt free. They’re chewy and thick. Quest bars also fill you up well, even if they provide you with only 170 calories per bar.
2. Go-Macro’s Macrobars Protein Pleasure
Healthy can be tasty too. Go-Macro’s Protein Pleasure bars include organic chocolate chips that will keep you coming for more. Although the long ingredients list might be alarming at first, a closer look will reveal that all the components are natural, and the length of the list is due to the word “organic”, placed before every ingredient. These bars are calorie rich (290 calories per 69g), so they should be consumed with moderation.
3. Hammer Bars
These are moist mashups of nuts and other natural ingredients. (They are one of my favorites!) Hammer Bars are not only delicious; they will also give you reliable, long-lasting energy. Plus, they’re easy to digest – they don’t feel heavy on the stomach, yet still fill you up. The cranberry one has a great flavor and at 12 bars for $30, they aren’t the cheapest bars, but they’re worth every penny.
4. Hammer Recovery Bars
These bars are a great supply of protein (between 15 – 20g) and fiber. So the difference between this bar and the other Hammer bars is the ‘Recovery’ feature – a great boost of protein after an intense work out. These tasty snacks also boost your immune system. Peanut butter chocolate has a great chocolatey and peanut butter flavor. They’re a bit higher than the regular bars, but when you’re working out, its a worth while investment.
5. Seitenbacher Energy Bar
Seitenbacher bars are touted as “one of the most delicious ways to ‘recharge your battery’ quickly”. The amazing gluten free bars are a mix of almond and natural golden honey, coated with German chocolate. And yes, they’re also gluten- and GMO- free, plus free from any added flavors. They’re about $34 for a pack of 12 bars.
6. Rise Bar
Rise Bars come in 11 delicious and exotic flavors, ranging from almond honey to sunflower cinnamon, and cacao banana flavors. They work perfect as post/workout snacks or as meal replacement. Rise bars are praised as one of the healthiest and most organic protein bars on the market. They are a favorite among dieticians and nutritionists. Claiming they’re the healthiest choice you can ever make. Here, we’ll only mention that Rice bars are well-balanced, high-protein snacks that have 100% organic ingredients (with proven ingredient sources). And they taste good too. At $24 for a pack of 12, they’re one of the most budget friendly bars as well.
Squarebars are quick, delicious snacks, low on calories. Containing about 200 calories, they will provide you with 12g of plant protein, sourced from brown rice. Besides being gluten-free, Squarebars are certified organic and non-GMO. These bars come in 7 different flavors.
8. Nogii Bars
These gluten-free rice crispy bars are big enough to make you feel satisfied and contain enough chocolate to be delicious. Also, they don’t taste like processed food at all. Nogii bars have more calories and sugar than the Quest bars we’ve mentioned before, so they are a little bit less health-focused, but they are delicious.
9. Core Meal Bars
As their name suggests, the Core Meal protein bars are oriented to replace complete meals. Providing 18g of protein and having up to 350 calories per bar, they are one of the most filling snacks you can find. One glance at their ingredient list will make you excited, because you won’t find anything but organic, GMO-free ingredients there. For example, the vanilla-flavored bars come with natural vanilla beans, rather than vanillin.
10. PR Bars
PR bars come in seven flavors to choose from, including mint, berry, apple pie and raisin. These bars have a crunchy, yet soft texture and are covered with a thin layer of chocolate. Having only 200 calories and 15g of protein, these bars are the perfect, guilt-free dessert for anyone who loves to enjoy life on a healthy way.
11. Raw Revolution
If you were looking for a delicious, dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free and kosher snack, then look no further. As their name suggests, Raw Revolution bars are made strictly of raw ingredients. They offer a healthy protein/carb balance (10g protein per 5g sugar) and an additional 10g of fiber per bar.
12. Vega Sport Protein Bar
Vega is a solid and respected company, well-known for its plant-based nutritional shakes, drinks and bars. You can be sure that they use only natural and organic ingredients in their products. The Vega Sport protein bars are great sources of proteins and omega-3S fats. If you were looking for a tasty snack to balance your protein intake, then look no further.
13. Vega One
Vega One is more of a complete meal replacement than just a protein bar. It provides you with a significant amount of protein (12g) and fiber (4g) as well. Vega One bars also contain many added vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, so they will benefit you as much as a full meal. At $36 for 12 bars, they are comparable to other bars.
14. Exo’s Apple Cinnamon Bars
Sometimes, the most unexpected things can become an organic and healthy source of high-quality nutrients. For instance, Exo discovered that crickets can provide that kind of pure, high-end protein any person would love to consume. If you’re shocked, then keep in mind that many Arabic countries have been eating crickets for centuries. Exo’s Apple Cinnamon protein bars have a slightly unusual taste, but it’s definitely one to try. These bars work perfectly as meal replacement.
Overall, these gluten free protein bars are a great way to enjoy a quick snack on-the-go, while also getting an excellent dose of protein and healthy vitamins and minerals. Chocolate is a prevalent flavor, but flavors like apple cinnamon and vanilla are excellent alternatives if you are not a chocolate fan. As for which one we like the best… tough call. Each brand has some great qualities. I will say that the variety packs rank high on our list of must-haves. I am a chocolate fan, so anything with chocolate is amazing in my book. 🙂
